English has an old word for it, moonglade, but hardly anyone uses it. We liked the Swedish better, and the picture it paints: a path of light laid across dark water.

Mångata is one maker. Sam designs every piece, chooses the timber and makes everything himself.

The workshop is timber-clad and crowded with tools: racks of clamps, saws, an old Myford lathe in the corner. Boards lean against the walls between sessions in the water.
